I have a pair in my office, that I am going to refoam the woofers and give to my younger stepson.Gave my son it's brethren,a pair of l112s like I have in my own living room.
I own 3 empire 498's,sansui xr-q7, pioneer pl-l1000a,all in need of repair and my daily driver is a Bohhey restored Dual 1229.I started buying my own albums and 45's at 10 years old in1971 when I got a paper route.
Going to use the the grommes " front end" on a 35 and 60 watt amp.Looking at 4 - 4.3k for the 60 (6gt5)and 5.4k for the 35 (7868).Looks like it could work.
I have this amplifier.Sounds good.Notice the voltage on the plate and screen of the 6aq5.310 and 320 volts. How can this be as it should be way to high, right? It is a dpa-5.
I also have the r47xt with the ne95ed stylus on my dual 1229.In my opinion, what a deal as the used realistic shure r25xt and r47xt can be found inexpensively and the NOS Shure ne95ed can be found still for less than 60 bux.
Used jbl 4645.HUGE,takes up the space of an easy chair. But man it does the job,and generally inexpensive used.If it's good enough for a theater,it's good enough for my house.
Back in the 80's I ran a CD player into my Yamaha c-70,m-70 and I would run it up to where it would show maxed out(300w I believe)for a second or two on peaks.I wouldn't do that with sub 30 hz.Only time I destroyed a woofer was in 83,I set my turntable on the speaker and at low volume...
I have had my l112's maxed out with both a yamaha m70 and sansui g901db and no probs.tweeters will smoke if albums have a lot of ticks.if you max the low end just crossover(bx63)to an inexpensive 4645.even my l7's can't handle low(20's)frequency maxed out without being crossed over.4645 takes...
