What is the value of this resistor on your unit?
Mine is 220 Ohms, but It's strange cause normally it's 330 Ohms on the schematic.
Also do you get the complete schematic?
there are also 2 capacitors (C4 & C5) in parallel with the switch, to limit the electric arc to the interruption of the device.
Make sure they're well connected, and in good condition.
I was sure my system would be useful to others. Glad to see that this is the case. :)
I will even advise those who have a Model 18 with a good transformer to make the modification anyway,
in advance in order to avoid burning the transformer completely, which are not found.
This is exactly what I mind when I said "with a better technical and aesthetic design",
and this is why I would not advise a Model 18 to anyone
who have no knowledge of electricity or who would not "put their hands in the sludge".
Since Model 1 & 2, marantz has always used Spragues...
The Model 18 is the only receiver designed by Saul Marantz, Sid Smith and Dick Sequarra.
The Model 19 is a copy of the Model 18, designed by Superscope,
with a better technical and aesthetic design but the components are significantly less good qualities.
Personally I prefer Model 18, but I...
I've had or still own Model 18, 22, 2225, 2230, 2240, 2245, 2270, 2325.
All are excellent receivers.
My preference goes to Model 18 (I own 3 now), Model 2245 & 2325 are nice too.
No, it only takes some technical knowledge.
The main difficulties were finding someone to make custom transformers,
and what output voltages to choose.
What continuous tensions do you get? (-500 & 6.3)
I hope you'll never have any problems with your installation, but it's a risk I wouldn't take twice,
because the main transformer is impossible to find on Ebay or anywhere else.
I just opened the thread on the modification I made...
I open this thread for those who have problems with the voltages
required to operate the oscilloscope on the marantz Model 18.
The defective -500V is a recurrent problem on the transformers of this Model,
but if you are lucky that the other voltages are correct,
it is possible to add a small...
If, for any reason, the 6.3V winding is a little grounded in the main transformer, this will result in a short circuit at 500V,
and the 6.3V windings won't resist it.
That's what happened to me.
6.3V & 325V
it is important to be very careful with this type of assembly,
because you inject 500V into the main transformer via the 6.3V of the filament.
I had done the same assembly on a Model 18, and the main transformer ended up burning.
Now I use a small transformer with 2 voltages, in order to...
To remove this plate, you have to unsolder the stereo light wires.
Then you remove the glass.
Then remove the small metal plate behind the stereo light with a small screwdriver.
Protects the plastic skylight for the scope with a small sheet of paper before painting.
I repainted it in satin...
