Dear Fellow FFers, Jim B has been a remarkable leader for these semi-annual gatherings, for years. We need to support these events or they will fade away. Let's all do our best to: 1. attend the event, 2. get at least one other person to join us. There's still time to help ensure the success of...

Nothing to sell here, but I have recruited a newly minted vintage audio enthusiast who will be looking for a 70s receiver and vintage speakers. He's very excited about the event.

    harman/kardon "Twin Power" Receivers

Just some feedback about my 730 from my incredible technician: "I'm'a say I like it more than any other HK I've worked on for some time. Really! I admire how it's built, and its cosmetics, and of course it sounds good (pardon the expression). I could do without the unconventional FM tuning...

That sounds like fun. I have a new-to-me HK 730C that I'd love to place in the competition, but the speakers couldn't be overly demanding (pretty much any 8 ohm speaker would be okay). Sounds Good!

For those who are demonstrating equipment but won't be in the Big Room, I strongly suggest you work together to take turns playing music, if you're in the same space (e.g., upstairs hallway). Maybe 10 or 15 minute slots. No one will be overseeing demos outside of the Big Room, but that seems to...

    Frank Sinatra?

Very interesting perspective. I love Frank, but he had a "small voice." A great voice but a small one; he couldn't belt-out a tune. Frank's secret sauce was his meticulous arrangements. They were flawless, IMO. In his best years (mid-50's on, IMO), he was backed by Count Basie and Nelson Riddle...

Bobby Darin Would Have Been Bigger and Better Than Frank Sinatra

I agree with your mom. Frank was known to sing "under the music;" that's not a criticism; he knew and worked around his limits. I love Frank (probably have more of his albums than any other artist), but I think Bobby Darin could have/would have been as good or better, but he never got the chance...

Bobby Darin Would Have Been Bigger and Better Than Frank Sinatra

Great feedback. Thanks. Dean is an interesting story. I think he had a better, more powerful voice than Frank, but not a big voice. Dean's problem was he lacked Frank's discipline and meticulous arrangements.

Bobby Darin Would Have Been Bigger and Better Than Frank Sinatra

All correct. I did not like his arrangement of Moon River. It was different, but not nearly as good as others. He was 37 when he died; just coming into his prime. He left some great music behind.

Bobby Darin Would Have Been Bigger and Better Than Frank Sinatra

He absolutely had a small voice. A great voice but a small one. Frank could never "belt out" a song. Frank's secret sauce was his flawless arrangements. Nobody had better, more meticulous arrangements. Give Bobby a chance, and I think you'll see/hear what I mean.

Bobby Darin Would Have Been Bigger and Better Than Frank Sinatra

When Bobby started singing American Standards, Sinatra was not pleased. He wanted Bobby to stick to Rock 'N' Roll. I have been listening to more and more of Bobby's crooner work: More, Always, and Beyond the Sea. The remastered version of More is superb: beautiful lyrics, great band, and Bobby's...
