Philco J-1824 DW - need some help please

So I been following this project cause I have the same pull that I picked up from a friend. I thought it would be a easy task to go grab a few pics that may be helpful only to find out that it is packed in between some other amps. I did manage to grab a few pics. Let me know if they would be a...

    Yet another 800B

Just wanted to add that the passives used look alot like a J. Mcshane assembled kit. A well put together rebuild kit and a outstanding outcome from my experiences using them. I use Hayseed for the top can caps usually. You have a nice looking unit, enjoy..

    Pilot SA-232...Can it rock?

It is really important to have a closely matched quad. I use Mcshane,s EL84M,s. (No affliation) No problems afterwards. You can chase your tail trying to match up 4. It is a great tube and very reasonable priced.

    Pilot SA-232...Can it rock?

I rebuilt this SA-232 ground up, a couple years ago. It was pretty well baked when I found it in a console. Using a matched quad of Sovtek EL84M,s. Does it rock, absolutely. I recently rolled some speakers on it and it performed well on all of them. JBL L36, Dynaco A-10, Altec 601C, and B&O R60.2s.

How do you solder can caps?

Definitely the way to go. I had this sitting in a box of old soldering irons I bought. Found them on a CL listing. I thought the Weller gun was gonna be the way to go. It did struggle. As last resort I tried the waffle iron looking thing. Worked like a charm. May be a little cumbersome. If in...

    Sherwood S8000

I really like the Hayseed products. I have used them on multiple units including 2 S8000. You also have good support if needed with Hayseed. Absolutely worth the price. They also show very well against the copper chassis. Hope this helps. (No affiliation)

Ranking vintage receivers? Those with better ears than I...

With all due respect there is always someone who pays no attention to the question asked and the interest behind it. Belittle was not part of it. Mcintosh did build the 1500 a hybrid and the 1700 also a hybrid, both are receivers. Ask Mr. Fisher or Mr. Scott about their budget and I think...

A bunch of Fisher Allegro questions

My apoligizes. Are shaft sizes different too? Can we move one of the knobs from tuner to the amp and use 2 of the bigger on the tuner if possible. When a smaller one comes up you can go back ti the original size.

A bunch of Fisher Allegro questions

So what your saying is that the 400, 500, and 800 type knob is different than the Allegros? If so I may have made a boo boo...

A bunch of Fisher Allegro questions

I believe all of the Fisher knobs are same size in that style. I will double check on my Allegro after I dig it out. I have never even got mine up and running. Once I pull it out I will throw it on the variac and take it's pulse. Need to know where to send to.

I am now a proud owner of a Fisher Allegro

The videos are great. Cool little set up. It plays really well and the tt sounds like it is holding speed. If your looking for only the brights for knobs Anthony makes some really nice ones. I have purchase in the past and think they work well. Great guy to work with too. Knobs are standard...

I am now a proud owner of a Fisher Allegro

I had a good friend pass this along to me before his passing. He was a really cool cat and had a vast knowledge of all things tubed. (I miss you buddy) I never put power to it yet. Cool little setup though. It included original paperwork, manuals, brights that had fallen off knobs, and the neat...

    Pilot Stereo Consoles

I found this one about 20 min from me. This was about 4 years ago. I couldn't believe it when I seen it posted. The gentleman was really happy with the few dollars I offered him. I had to find a power transformer because the original was replaced. I was fortunate to find one in quite short order...

How do Fisher XP and console speaker components compare?

I found these baffles in a console that was on its way to the dump. It had the Philharmonic tube receiver and a Dual 1019 turntable in the console also. I found it interesting that they sourced speakers from Sweden for this console.

Recommendation on an integrated tube amp for Altec Lansing Model 14.

I tried Altec 1570B,s on my 14,s and it was a cool experience. I usually have a restored Heathkit AA-40 on them. Really nice soundstage and layered. On some recordings its like you can hear how the music was mixed down. I roll alot of my amps thru the 14,s. The Yaqin MC100-B was ok and then I...

Olson AM-229 M Motional Feedback Amplifier

That is a beautiful CM-912. It does look like they used the same type of feedback. I recently added a pair of CM-209 16,s to my Bozak collection. I haven't run across the ones that match up to the 912 yet.

Olson AM-229 M Motional Feedback Amplifier

Thanks, I tend to agree. Maybe pass it on to someone looking to get into tubes and wants to do his own restore or put some money into it. Alot of Suzuki's in there. I believe it does operates with a 8 ohm load as a regular pp stlye amp also. There are 2 seperate feedback loops there. Correct...

Olson AM-229 M Motional Feedback Amplifier

My wife brought to my attention that there was a Olson AM-229 M amp listed locally for a very reasonable price. Upon picking up the seller said his father used it for selected directional type recordings back in the day. He also stated that it uses a different type of speaker and that he didn't...

Tube receiver... Sansui 1000A? Fisher ?

Like must of us, no matter what you choose, after listening to your choice you will probably end up with one of each. That is my experience and seems like alot of others. I think all of them should have a sticker on them, May be habit forming. The Sansui 1000A is great unit after recap. So are...
