I had a set of recapped A10s a number of years ago. They reproduce voice well - NPR sounded nice - but I was never impressed with much else. Eventually I busted up the cabs (completely trashed) for the drivers. I've never heard a 25.

I saw that same ad. The cabs with blue speaker cloth and adjustment knobs were empty. However, he did have a second pair of apparently home-built or custom cabinets a la 1950s/1960s with what appeared to be JBL drivers.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I sold a single Altec 755a on the 'Bay right before the economic meltdown and got about what this guy is asking for the AR-1s. That said, I don't think I'd be so lucky now. These ones are really far too nice to hack up also - I'm with winters860 on that one.

I've had my eye on the USB version of this for a while now. I've always thought that my Macbook Pro had a great audio out, but I accidentally damaged the jack a while back. It still works, but the connection is a bit on the iffy side now.

They have external power supplies, yes.

I have a UCA202. It sucks as a DAC. If you're just using it to convert USB into SP/DIF, it should be fine. Otherwise, buy something different. It's noisy, with flabby bass - the quality just isn't that great.
