    Is this the right resistor?

I have a multi meter but I'm not sure how to measure a resistor with it. What setting do I use? I'm replacing them because they are 40 yro speakers and you can see the crack thru the base of the resistor in the pic. I already replaced the capacitors and everything sounds great otherwise.

    Is this the right resistor?

I need new resistors on my Kenwood LS 405A speakers. I found this resistor on PE. Am I getting the right one? http://www.parts-express.com/2-ohm-5w-resistor-wire-wound-5-tolerance--015-2?utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=pla

    My first project! Kenwood LS-405A

It looks like 7 5/8" come diameter, and 9 1/8" inside the frame. The guys at Midwest Speaker Repair said that they didn't have anything in that size...

    My first project! Kenwood LS-405A

Yes! I was thinking Gorilla Glue but the original glue was like a thick rubber glue. Didn't know if that was for acoustics.. Is it important to us the exact same capacitors. I searched and can't find a 50V 8uf...

    My first project! Kenwood LS-405A

I've never listened to these speakers. Just picked them up last night... They may sound pretty good after some work! Oh but I think you were commenting on Colohikers recent rehab.... Sorry.

    My first project! Kenwood LS-405A

To recap means to replace the capacitors? Right?.... I'm gonna put new foam surrounds and clean these guys up! Any experience, suggestions, ideas would be appreciated. Does anyone know of crossover upgrades? Or is installing new caps the upgrade? Did I mention this is my first speaker...

Phono hum and no ground wire!

Yes! The cartridge was handed down by my father in law. I knew it was quite a step up from what came with my turntable, but otherwise know little about it. No instructions either.. I was able to wiggle off the ground tab described above. Still humms. I have tape around the metal mounting screws...

Phono hum and no ground wire!

To experiment I used tape around the cartridge mounts. It made no difference. I have a Kenwood KA-4002 that had a similar humm. What is the v15?

Phono hum and no ground wire!

Ok. So I plugged into the tuner input and switch to the turntables preamp... Clean as a whistle.. Does the phono preamp circuitry in the Kenwood need servicing? I'm tempted to leave it plugged into the tuner and be done with it.... I haven't sat down and listened to the radio in years.

Phono hum and no ground wire!

I do have a Shure cartridge. Not sure of the model number and I'm not at home right now to check. I'll switch that one out for the original and see how that works. I have tried connecting the turntable to other amps and have gotten a similar humm.

Phono hum and no ground wire!

My Kenwood KA-8100 is not playing well with my turntable. When I select phono-1 or phono-2 without the turntable plugged in, there is a slight hiss. And it's only really noticeable when I turn it up past three quarters max volume. When I plug my turntable into either phono1 or phono2 inputs...

    Sub connection to Kenwood KA-8100

I do like it cranky most of the time! Just like the commercial, "Hey is that Freedom Rock man?... Well then TURN IT UP MAN!" :-D I assume 85Hz allows more of the mid range frequency to reach the speakers than say 120Hz? Or do I have it backwards?....

    Sub connection to Kenwood KA-8100

Good point. Couldn't hurt to try it both ways to compare.... Thanks
