Not trying to talk you out of new IC's but have you tried cleaning your connections with contact cleaner? I don't know how cables would get "weak" and fail over time unless you spend a lot of time changing them or they were removed by pulling the cable instead of the barrel of the connector.

If it smells most with the dust cover up it may help to remove the dust cover and clean it thoroughly with "ammonia and water and/or other gentle cleaners" as mentioned above.

I picked up a pair of Forte 1's back in August. My room is 12' wide and to me the best sound is with the outside of the speakers about 2' from the side wall and the speaker backs out about 2' from the wall.I have mine parallel with the walls, no toe in. YMMV. Nice speakers, congratulations...

I don't know room numbers but Spatial Audio and Pure Audio Project are open baffle speakers that will be at the show.
