Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

Hi Rafaecorp, You might apply "+" to Pin 14 and "-" to Pin 15 for the 1st time. then do it again with reversed polarity ("-" to Pin 14,"+" to Pin 15). Jack

Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

I have tried to find a good replacement for STV-2H-O(orange dot) just in case I might need it one day. The best I have found so far is HER 105 which meets the specs of Vf range of STV-2H-O: The Vf of STV-2H-O(@If= 7mA): Vf_min:1.07 V Vf_max:1.15 V Scanned 10 smaples and got the average Vf...

After adjustment the idle currents now are about 68mV on both channels. ---------------------- Before ---------Now Lch idle current: 106mV ------->~68mV(specs:70mV) Rch idle current: 60mV -------->~68mV(specs:70mV) Power consumption: 70W ------>~62W (idle mode,no input/output) Temperature of...

Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

Correction: From above data the actual power consumption was at least about 6.32W higher than normal: ((actual idle current_R+idle current_L)/0.94 ohm)*2*110-((70mV+70mV)/0.94 ohm)*2*110V)=((107+60mV)/0.94 ohm)*2*110V-(70+70mV)/0.94 ohm*110V=6.32W This means if the idle currents on both...

Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

The SA9800 with dim VFD had been sitting on the shelf for over 6 months before I took it off the shelf couple days ago, after many short warm-ups it's now ready for test. The 1st issue I found is the standby power consumption too high 113Vac/0.790A/70W about 7W(10%) higher than normal...

Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

Couple days ago I figured out how to measure the electron current emits out of the filament,I tested it today on a Samsung VFD, the Ife curve trace explained why a higher Vg makes VFD dimmer, because Ife is not always increasing with Vg(Grid Voltage). I will do same test on VFDs of my SA9800 soon.

Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

    5. VFD Rejuvenation: There is a chance that my dim display could be saved by moving the ash(or oxidization) on the surface of filament(if it's the cause of my dim display).the high temperature can vaporize or shatter the ash and reveal uncovered filament.I am going to try it this week...

Repairing SA-9800 #2: Dim display,Dirty Relay & Poor mechanical contacts

4.Replacing Relay: The contacts of the Omron relay(MY2-J 48VDC) is dirty(the DC contact resistance sometimes >0.5 ohm),it caused weak R-ch and distortion. I replaced it with a Idec relay (RM2V-U DC24V with a 48DCV coil),it passed my contact resistance test before I install it in the SA-9800...
