The low damping factor and high output impedance of these budget single ended amps really aren't a great match for modern vented speakers. Bass will quite often sound bloated and will lack definition. And the low power means there's very little headroom. jeff

So stock up on NOS 5U4GB's and don't worry about getting crappy new production 5AR4's. jeff

There's always the "yellow sheet" mod, if it's compatible with the Manley amps. Are these amps wired point-point? jeff

Appears to be cathode biased, so there's a good chance the 6P3S-E's will be running way too hot in your amp. I don't see anything on their website about running other output tubes. jeff

Most reviews should be taken with a grain of salt. Not saying tube rolling doesn't make a difference thou. jeff

It seems most new amps come with tubes that are still in production, and will probably continue to be produced for some time. So, the manufacture would most likely voice the amp with those new production tubes. There's really no point in designing an amp around NOS tubes that nobody can get...

Same. I had a look at the SX-838 service manual, and they aren't listed there either. I think they are just some weird metric sheet metal screw, somewhere around 4mm. Mcmaster-Carr has a page that shows an M4.2 that might be close, but who knows...

I pulled one out of my 636, and it's only ~7.5mm long, so item #60 are for something else. Plus, on the drawing there's no item number associated with those bottom plate screws. jeff

Yes. It appears the power cord comes out to the right of the label. There's no socket for the power cable from pics on the internet. jeff
