I have a little drawer container I keep headshells and carts in for swapping out... closed incorrectly one day and yanked the tip out of a Compass Bronze I had very few hours on. I was so upset! LOL Still looking for a better safer storage option.

Don't overlook the Nikko Beta series of preamps. I have the Beta-40 and it is a giant killer. Phono cart capacitance switching up front, and built like a tank. It's 19'' rack mountable, so it may or may not look ok with your other components, but the bang for your buck is killer.
