    Thorens TD126mk3

My original TD-126 ("Mark I") from 1976 is still working as new. A couple of bearing oil changes and belt replacements are the only things that I had to do to keep it spinning. It is a solid machine that gives an impression that it will work forever. I have no first hand experience with the...

Recording high quality vinyl to digital

Exactly! :) I'm using the line input on my Tascam DR-100 MkII digital recorder for all my vinyl ripping. Sound quality in 24/96 WAV mode is great, practically indistinguishable from the original. What I like most is that this is battery operated self contained recorder. No humming due to...

How do you guys count your cartridge hours?

I'm checking them after 500 hours, on a microscope that I have bought for for an equivalent of $10. It is an ancient Czechoslovakian Meopta biological microscope: The lighting technique is very important if you want to see the wear correctly. My lighting setup consisting of two Ikea...

Digitizing vinyl - so frustrating and tedious I'm about to give up

This is exactly what I'm doing. I'm using a line input on a TASCAM DR100MkII digital recorder. The quality I'm getting at 24/96 is better than my MacMini's (late 2012) analog input, or my old M-Audio USB Audiophile interface.

    What's British in your system?

Naim nDAC, Mission Cyrus Two amplifier + PSX power supply, Mission Cyurs One amplifier, two SME 3009 S2 Improved tone arms on my two turntables, ... and if it counts (part British), AR-90, AR-30BF, and AR-17 speakers (all made in AR UK factory for the European market).

USB 78rpm ripping on a budget

Dual CS 5000? Thorens TD-126 has 78 rpm speed, but it is not exactly a budget turntable. Technics SL-D2 can be easily converted to 78 rpm and it is cheap: http://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/how-to-modify-a-technics-turntable-to-play-78-rpm.325483/

Oh boy, do I want one of these!

Maybe we can build DIY levitating turntables by ourselves using some modules from Crealev company? :) http://www.crealev.com/products/

Just wondering why TT don't have inbuilt counters/clickers...

I'm using a LED light on one side, a mirror on the other side: This is the result (photo of a worn out Supex SD-900 stylus):

Just wondering why TT don't have inbuilt counters/clickers...

. Few months ago I dug out my long retired Ortofon Fritz Gyger (OM40) stylus and checked it under the microscope: As you can see it is badly worn, and I realized that I might have been damaging my records with it. This was before the clicker and the microscope. I guessed the hours on it...

Just wondering why TT don't have inbuilt counters/clickers...

I keep the counters next to my turntables. Each time I lower the stylus on a LP side, I click the counter. It doesn't get simpler than this. :)

 I'm using this: I have three turntables, each has a clicker. :) After 1500 clicks/LP sides (approx. 500 hours of playing) it's time for inspection: .

    Technics SL-1600 vs SL-5300

The motor in SL-Q2/3 turntables and SL-1200MkII is identical. Arms are almost identical too. The biggest difference is in the arm base - no VTA adjustment with SL-Q tables.

    Tergitol

I got it from here: http://www.sigmaaldrich.com/catalog/product/sigma/15s7?lang=en&region=SX The price is 68.50 euros for 500ml, but at the end it was almost double due to import procedures and taxes. I bought the bottle together with two more friends, so the cost was shared. I got the half...

    AR 30b woofer questions

I have bought my AR-30BF (Connoisseur) speakers new in 1985. They seem very similar to your AR-30B Your drivers seem to be all original. AR-30BF are nice speakers and my 13 year old son is using them now with my old Sansui amp. Here are the scans of the original brochure that I have...
