Monolithic Magnificent Magnavox Imperial 1972 Armoire

I don't have to imagine how heavy those sets were, 45 years ago I was delivering them new. For the really big horizontal consoles we used a set of piano movers that strapped on each end, that gave you wheels and handles you could pick them up with. The problem with these was there was really...

    Dual 1009 Automatic Spindle

While I was looking for something else today I came across the tall automatic spindle for my Dual 1009. Of course it's missing the small rubber pieces that hold up the records while the bottom one drops. Does anyone know a source for these little rubber bits or has anyone successfully made...

    Magnavox Concert Grand Score

These CG's have a set of inputs on the chassis for aux input and they work ok. But if you really want to kick it up with a CD player hook up a selector switch and use the phono inputs for the CD player. The phono input has an extra 12AX7 in the preamp for the ceramic cartridge. If you don't...

    Magnavox Concert Grand Score

Horn Head you're absolutely right, what I was referring to wasn't someone's fascination with the instrument and it's internal workings, I was questioning taking the unit apart for it's internals to build something else without even listening to what a complete working set sounded like. There...

    Hey Dual 1009/1019 Owners

I've used turbine oil for 40 years to oil all types of electric motors. It does not gum up like paraffin based oils do. You can find it in good hardware stores and HVAC supply houses usually under the named Zoom Spout Turbine oil.

    Magnavox Concert Grand Score

Destroying one of these is like finding a Shelby Cobra, pulling the motor and transmission to finish your 85 Mustang street rod. IMHO the Concert Grand is one of the very few console stereos that has a real potential to take off in value. Right now they can usually be found pretty reasonable I...

    Time to eco-mod the Caprice.

I bought my '99 Metro about 3 years ago before the prices went wild, last August some guy pulled out in front of me and I hit him. His insurance company called it a total and gave me $2000 for my car, I spent about $800 and fixed it myself, including a visit to the frame machine. Now I'm...

    Phase Linear 400 Problems

Just my $0.02 worth, be very careful where you get your output transistors, avoid the 'bay. I got burned on a set of outputs, turned out they were Chinese knockoffs and very poor quality. Luckily something someone said made me curious enough to check them out before I installed them...

Did you/Do you Suffer for your Hobby ?

My Wife can can get on my case incessantly about how many I have in the living room and bedrooms of the house and sometimes how many I have in general, but if someone else makes a less than complimentary remark about my hobby she has been known to tell them where to get off. Sometimes if I'm...

NAD 3020 Stereo Amp - no sound

I've seen that particular type of fuse fail like that frequently and nothing be wrong with the unit. If you look close the fuse wire has pulled out of the solder. What happens is the spring is constantly pulling on the solder connection which is weak and eventually just pulls apart. It's...

    Marantz 2215B

I was wondering through a thrift store yesterday and saw a box for a Marantz SR1000. I thought it deserved a second look and when I opened it up I found a pristine 2215B. Apparently somebody had bought an SR1000 and retired the 2215B in the box the SR1000 came in. This receiver works...

    Magnavox Dilemma

It's your's , you can do with it what you want. The 295 series was a rather pedestrian set and there were many built, Lord knows we can't save them all. Now it does cause me a bit of heartache when I see a really pristine Magnavox Concert Grand or Imperial Series broken up for the components...
