The Age Old Debate On AK. Spend Money On Speakers Or Spend Money On Upstream Electronics.

I perhaps could amend what I wrote to say low frequencies are the devil in room acoustics because the higher and upper mids are easily treatable. Saying the room is "important" is broad and general, getting more specific; energizing your room with non-sympathetic bass waves can ruin your...

The Age Old Debate On AK. Spend Money On Speakers Or Spend Money On Upstream Electronics.

Fly in the ointment, I don't see anyone including subwoofers into the list of importance. Some have distinguished the digital verses analog sources, could we........should be start breaking down the frequency reproduction spectrum? Should we include subwoofers, and then if so, why not include...

Adding a subwoofer and surround back speakers to a 2.0 system

I see the successful pattern of keeping equipment and subwoofers in the space between the two main loudspeakers below ear level, and as open as allowable per real life constraints. My opinion; the space in-between the speakers is as important as any other clearance (R & L speaker locations off...

Adding a subwoofer and surround back speakers to a 2.0 system

I've always appreciated what you have been able to do with your listening room, creativity wins. Q1: An old argument is to switch off the subwoofer when playing vinyl albums because all you will be amplifying is the rumble because there are no recorded audio frequencies that low on an LP. I...

The Age Old Debate On AK. Spend Money On Speakers Or Spend Money On Upstream Electronics.

I'm talking a swing at trying to unravel the above statement. 1. Speakers 2. Room 3. Recordings (but what is SQ?) 4. Turntable 5. Digital Source 6. Amp 7. Phono Stage 8. Line Stage 9. Wire If the numerical list above is what nailer intended, I can agree it is a good list but mostly because if...

Adding a subwoofer and surround back speakers to a 2.0 system

An old thread of mine (see below) with articles, white papers, videos, diagrams and examples for single subwoofer placement. Link to old thread: https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/two-channel-stereo-subwoofer-small-room.907002/ In that thread you can see not everyone has the same...

Ever demo your system for others?

I was going to say that it looks like a good room for headphones, but if you got it to work, the more power to you. They say an automobile is a terrible acoustic environment, but how many of us have enjoyed a good song while in the car? Anything can happen when it comes to psychoacoustics.

Nice system, nice room, and you know how to place it all in the room for best acoustic results. Congratulations.

    HH Scott totl late 70's

Nice, I loved the amber glow mine had, a 25 watt R327 bought in 1978 or 1979, as part of my first stereo system. Replaced it with an SAE Two RC3 35 watt receiver about a year later for more power (thought 10 more watts was going to play louder - how little I knew) and kept the SAE for a...

    Kach22i System

Picked up a new to me CD player, Esoteric SA-50.............2006 vintage still being broken in as it was rarely played in an audio store owner's second system. The cat seems to like it too.

Picture from your listening spot right now!

Awesome. A Bald Eagle flew down our part of the river yesterday, at eye level out my kitchen window. My wife was too slow to see it, she usually is or comes to the window without her glasses. This morning a couple of white swans are curled up on the thin ice shelf at the edge of the river, a...

You have the best of both worlds, panel speakers and a Pioneer PL-L1000 linear tracker. Is that really your yard? I'm in envy and I have a scenic river in my backyard, kayaks away!

Picking up Pioneer PL-L1000. Diagnosing automatic issues

Great news. I'll have to revisit my own automatic features issues in a few months. Right now my tube preamp decided to start running hot again, last time all it needed was new tubes, but that didn't work this time. The new tubes do sound sweet right out of the box though.

Picking up Pioneer PL-L1000. Diagnosing automatic issues

Updates would be nice. I use my PL-L1000 in all manual mode, none of the automatic features work, not even the cuing wheel. I just pretend that it's one of those super expensive turntables that are all manual - it sounds like one after all.

    Mystery speaker of the day

Looks like the start of a list. Add to it....... ESS AMT-1 Maybe some stuff from Infinity in the IRS series? Tower speakers were the exception, not rule back then (late 1970's early 1980's). By the late 1980's towers had taken over, no more odd shoe box proportioned speakers confused if...

    Mystery speaker of the day

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't RTR popularize the tall skinny tower speaker? Late 1970's and early 1980's almost everything was different sizes of shoe boxes, Bose had a floor sitting cube though. Who else had towers by 1981? I suspect towers became marketable after panel speakers like...
