My Sony SSU-3000's are still on their original surrounds ('78),.....same with some MCS speakers ('80's), ...and the Nova and optimus 7's, 21's and 1's, that I had,.....and my Novas 8b's ('70's closed cell foam).... .....so surrounds can be manufactured to last.......but.........

I would also look for a used higher end Brymen..............many Greenlee's are re-badged Brymens also.

Well I have a couple of actual meters that agree with each other.......every app I tried (which was several) was....pitifully inaccurate. I'm positive we would disagree on a lot....so...YMMV

Phone app db meters are nothing more than a novelty....good for absolutely nothing but maybe 5 minutes of curious entertainment. Some will dispute that an actual db meter,....digital or analog that measure A or C weighted, slow and fast,... are useless too......but are available and good for...

I suggest looking for a used Fluke also...... I have a nice 23 I bought for a Jackson... ...a like new 79III for two Jacksons, and a 187 for two Jacksons. Be patient and look to the used market.
