    Hi all,

I have a old Fender tube amp and it uses a 1 meg pot which is giving me a noise
problem, so it measures about 850K on my meter if I put in a new old stock one that
measures a true 1 meg or so would there be a sound difference or no.

    Thanks

It will only be slower to level up

    Edit:

At 1 position, the sound level will be approximately like it was at 0.85 before.

    At 10 , 8.5...

Also, make sure it is the same taper as the one you replace,,, with a linear taper, if you turn the pot halfway, the resistance measured on each side will be equal...

Have you tried cleaning it with contact cleaner? The value being off isn't a big deal, but if it's noisy and contact cleaner is ineffective a new one could fix that. What fender and what pot?

The pot. you get may also be about 850k. I find that they tend to run low in resistance in general, unless you buy an esoteric, expensive one.
Go ahead and install it, should be fine. When i rebuilt my '66 Fender Vibro-Champ, I left the original pots in there.

    What does "level up" mean?

It's a Fender Deluxe 5B3 from 1953, I'm replacing it with a original CTS 1 meg audio pot I picked
them up and measured at 1 meg.

This is interesting I decided to change out the 60 year old pot that was in the
amp with a newer nos CTS pot, the old one measured 835 ohm, the CTS
is 1.045 meg. It does sound a bit different more mid's I say, I'll try it for awhile
    to see how it sounds.
