This might be either a fun thread, or a total train wreck, but I'm betting with fellow AK'ers it will be the former.

Setup: I want to do a retro listening room, that reflects what you might have found in the mid 70's furnishing wise. I can paint/poster/etc so no worries there. One thing: No shag carpeting (boo). Think more like adult listening area, no bedroom/college student décor.

Here's what I have component wise:
Sansui Model 2K - Silver/black
Pioneer RT-707 reel to reel - Silver
Sansui Turntable - Silver
Wharfdale W70D - Walnut cabinets

Go!! :thmbsp::scratch2:

OR,

That 70's show!

Plenty of ideas there. I'm thinking big votives, perhaps plastic fruit.....

hehe i new i should have taken a picture of my listening space. i moved into my grandparents house and just re arranged existing furniture its total mid 70s!

Well do you wan't a kids Stoners room?:smoke:

Or a funky adult space:nerd:

Depending on your age I would go the adult rout.

Cork and miror 12" tiles on one of the walls. Remember those?

Everybody smoked then so you need some groovy ashtrays.

the mirrors!

theres those 12x12 mirrors with a marbled gold effect in them all over the place with a matching coffee table and end tables. i also got a trippy chandelier light thing made out of round sea shells i think. its hanging in-between my receiver and TT with those mirrors behind it!

dont know what my grand parents where going for. maybe a las vegas scar face thing. everything is white and theirs statues of women and leopards everywhere.

also got a giant round chair, it would be bitchin reupholstered in purple velvet man. theres also a glitter lava lamp that lights up blue.

i would say you need a cool wall clock, trippy blown glass ashtray, wood paneling, mirrors, lava lamp, funky lamp/light, period correct chair. pretty much a Goodwill trip.

See you and I are on the same page. :D Got to get that swinging singles groovy look.

Just get an 8mm porno and look at the furniture.

I sometimes miss the 70's.

Well, from experience, I set up my 70's space when it was the 70's in my parent's attic. I figured the peaked ceilings would be good for acoustics. I had a job, so I bought 6" FIBERGLASS insulation and packed it between the rafters, then put up that soft board, I think they called it Homasote, over the insulation. Double carpeted the floors.

Farrah poster, a few psychodelic posters, and one big ass bean bag chair to listen in. The damn chair had to be 8' round if you let it totally flatten out. I slept on it a lot.

Never had a Lava lamp, but that would have been a good addition. I did have a strobe light and a black light. And one of the posters was black light luminous.

I mounted shelves to the far wall for the equipment. Didn't use cinder blocks or milk crates.

Does she come with the bean bag chair?? :D

Great suggestions and really appreciate the pictures.

I have to say no to the bedroom look, more of the adult feel.

Keep going, this is really getting the neurons firing.
