Cool pics. Thanks for posting. Do they have big events like these anymore?

I think 2008 was the year there was a wedding booked for Saturday afternoon, in the atrium, inside. The hotel asked us if we could shut down for about 15 minutes, while the ceremony took place. It was a condition of getting the hotel, that year.

Anyway, at about ten minutes to four, somebody from the wedding party was checking the audio, mikes okay, speakers okay, all set. WAIT! How the hell are we going to play the CD, the one with the processional music on it?? Frantic best man goes to the desk and asks, and is told, "No, we don't have a CD player, but there's an audio show here. SOMEBODY must have one to lend you for a few minutes." The best man was told that I was the person to see, and he found me, in the Marantz room. Marty Cooper, then the N. American VP of Sales for Marantz, was gracious enough to loan the wedding party a CD player, their newest Reference SACD player, debuting at the show, at about $14K. We schlepped it down, set it up, and it was good.

Everybody stopped, and stepped out to line the railings of the mezzanines. The ceremony went off without a hitch, thanks to the Marantz people, and the happy couple had a memory to share. Later that evening, Laith Al-Saadi was our evening entertainment, and he was tearing it up. A good portion of the reception crowd came in to party with our crowd, since, as the Maid of Honour put it, their DJ 'sucked'. It was a good night, all around.

A neighbor had a bunch of us over for chili, cornbread, cake, and beers around a roaring campfire.

No tunes, but we did hear owls and discovered one neighbor has owl calling skills.

Also learned another neighbor is a baking instructor at Zingermans, yum. I have to get on her good side.

No wonder I am tired today.

He was there. He might be able to tell you.

I hope Marty is doing well. As you know, my wife worked the registration desks at the Fests. She ventured out, that same year, and headed for the Marantz room, as her primary system is based on a 2252B. She went in, timidly, (uncharacteristically, for her) and Marty greeted her.

Marty: "Do you have any Marantz gear, at home?"
    Linda: "yes."
    M: "What model?"
    L: "Ummmm, it's silver. Oh, (recalling), it's a 2252B."
    M: "Do you like it?"
L: "Yep. It's easy to use."
M: "Great! I'm very glad that you are a satisfied customer. Can I play anything for you?"
L: "I have this CD. It's Barry Manilow."
    M: "Alright! Let's play it."

Linda said, afterward, that she thought the system sounded amazing, like Barry was in the room. It was the Reference system, and topped out at somewhere north of $50K. Linda's big memory of the exchange was how nice Marty was, and how he made her feel welcome, and played her music. No other room did any of that.

Please tell Marty I hope all is well with him. He was always a great person, in my book. Oh, and let him know that the TT-15S1 is still my first table.

    :p

You know the whole time I'v been here I have never been in these forums. I looked in the 2008 sub forum the other day, and a member started a thread asking about a certain woman at the fest. Oh that one was funny, he was inquiring about Dave's daughter and didn't know it until it was brought to his attention. :D

He is a great guy. Spent a wonderful afternoon with him in Phoenix, eating great Mexican food, drinking beer and talking stereo and music.

Yes he is, and I miss a lot of those guys over there not posting here. I like the haven It just moves a bit slow for me, and nothing really related to the type gear I have and know about. I like to help people and most over there are all about equal as not really needing any help
