2ch Setup with Subwoofer?

Hi Bassblaster. Thanks for the response!

I actually already have the stereo receiver and the speakers (linked in my first post, hand-me-downs from a neighbor) and I was looking to buy this cheap $50.00 subwoofer (http://a.co/61PfJNf) but I am confused about how I would wire it up.

Would I need it to have input from both the left and right channels because it only has one input. I assume that I would need some sort of combination between series and parallel like this (http://dynacotubeaudio.forumotion.com/t1806-dynaco-center-channel#12821) but I honestly have no idea how to correctly read that diagram.

Thanks for your help

Ohh i see. sorry i misunderstood you. but i dont think the amp you have will power that sub very well. the 3 speaker config in the link you sent will send less power to each speaker as its putting them in series. The amp you have uses a TDA7297 rated for 15Wx2 into 8 Ohm at 16.5V. i own several amps with that same IC (im a huge chip amp fan) and at 12V into 8 ohm you get about 7-8W. What voltage are you running yours at?

With 12V the most power your going to get from your amp is between 7 and 8 WPC before clipping. not enough to drive that sub. you would be better off finding a used powered sub and run that.

Any recommendations for a powered sub close to $50.00? If none exist then what is the least expensive I could go?

Thanks for all the help

Thanks for all of the help everybody! So I was searching on and off for a while and I finally settled on this one that I found used with a small hole in the front mesh for about $40 (including shipping) on eBay:

What a great purchase!! The listening experience is like night and day!

Anyone have advice for an optimal crossover frequency? I have it set at about 100Hz right now

Again, thanks to everybody for the help

It usually depends on the main speakers, i.e. how low they go before they crap out. The link for yours claims 30 Hz but I don't really believe it - partly because they didn't list a -db parameter for 30 Hz (i.e. is it 3 db or 10 db below the rest of the speaker's output curve at that point). Based on the rest of the specs and claims there is quite a bit of hype there. BUT in any case, 100 Hz sounds like a good spot. If the sub is too boomy or you get too much of the upper bass and can't hear the lowest notes, try it a bit lower. You can experiment with both the sub volume and crossover point and see what sounds best. It usually takes a bit of trial and error to dial it in.
