Incandescent or led? If the latter what color?

All mine are out, bringing this back to life... I prefer a stock appearance but was happy with "warm white" LEDs in my Sansui QRX-7001. Do these series Marantz have the same heat issues as the Sui?

No heat issues as long as you don't use 300ma incandescent bulbs.
I like warm white LED lamps as they most closely match the original Marantz look.
I tried blue LED lamps just once. OMG!
Way over the top for me.
Make sure you install new vellum - it makes a huge difference.

I don't have access to the unit right now as it's at the spa having a rear channel fixed... is the vellum blue or is the color filter separate from the vellum?

I use Grafix clear 48# vellum available at art supply stores like Rex art online. The blue does come from the dial face. I have cut many pieces from these sheets and feel the color result is most authentic. I also use black E6000 adhesive- available at craft stores , (even wally world) adhesive to seal the edges and metal face rubber pieces. Just some ideas if you are going this deep. Bulbs are available many places but make sure they are the proper voltage and current, it can mess up whole circuits if not. 8V 0.2 amp from the parts list in the SM
