Just got in from picking up a Pioneer SX-828 and a Thorens TD-160. Aside from the missing Dust cover this is the nicest gear I have scored yet. I felt so bad when the seller asked me whats gonna happen to his baby ( the Pioneer ). I told him shes going to a loving home. I walked out with both for 100.00. I over paid alittle but I think I didnt do to bad. I also picked up a Pair of AR-7 Speakers that are missing the woofs for 2.50. The cabinets are sweet. The last pair of AR7's I had brought 110.00 and they looked like they had been through the ringer several times. I would post pics of the stuff but I have yet to sit down and figure out how it works here. Earlier today I had a call on some gear that damn near made my Heart stop. This guys got some serious Mac, Western Electric amps, Dual and Micracord gear. Im waiting for the call back to see if they can be made mine. till then I hope you guys have great luck with the weekend upon us.

I am amazed at what you find Grumpy. I know it takes alot of hard work and some luck to get what you find. Ads in the paper and living in the big city help too, eh. My problem would be wanting to keep it all and not sell it. Must be Hell being a vintage audio collector and having to sell it all to earn a keep. That would suck.

I loved my SX-828! I actually traded an SA-9100 for it.
Essentially the same tuner as the TX-9100, and the same amp, slightly de-rated (to 54 wpc from 60) as the SA-9100.
TOTL from 1972.
nice haul, grump!

I've been tempted to get one! Hard to find a place for it, and I really like the big guys. But it was one sweet receiver that never failed to impress.

Hey there Dave...

That model Thorens isn't the best in their line up but it ain't bad either. I sure have been trying to get one lately but it seems that everyone always wants more than I can shell out at this time. Might you wish to unload it why, remember me cause I would be happy to take it off your hands. Even without a dust cover. I can scrape one up prolly. Keep it in mind okie dokie?

Thanks! :)

The Thorens has a real good chance of staying put with me since my Thoren 145 just rolled over on me. I know its not thier best but it certainly no slowch by any means. I will let you know when I make up my mind.

The TD160 is a very good turntable, definitely a step up from the 145. It's also quite tweakable, and when tweaked, can be right up there with the 120 series tables.
