Ruger GP100 .357 and Sig P220 .45 acp

I like 'em both. Never been a Ruger wheelgun fan but since I've been unable to find an S&W Model 13 I've been looking at the GP100s more & more.

How old is yours? I've not seen one without a full barrel lug in a long time.

I just traded a 10mm S&W I inherited several decades ago for a almost new Springfield 1911 EMP4 in 9mm.
Springfield EMP4 is a nice shooter, and 9mm is much cheaper and easier to find than 10mm.

For plinking, I inherited from my mom a 2nd series Colt Woodsman .22 auto with 6 inch barrel. Very nice shooter.

Short answer: it’s as small an effective rifle caliber as you can get, so these rifles are accurate and controllable. The rifle equivalent of a .22 pistol.

That one is quiet heavy and had a lot of tuning, something evil people just aren’t interested in learning how to do.

No worries.

That’s a target rifle, my oh poop rifle is considerably different. Not to get too in the weeds, but little rounds like those rifles use yaw and break up when they hit drywall or wall studs, unlike shotgun pellets which just keep on trucking. I wish there was a way to talk about this stuff without getting the fainting couches, but this is where we all are.

You guys have Lee-Enfields, don’t you? An SMLE or No. 4 is a much cooler rifle than the ubiquitous AR and is very deadly <if> you can shoot, as the untold numbers of Dervishes, Boers, Germans, Japanese, Italians, Chinese, Pathans and various other peoples laid low by the .303 for King and Country testifies. With quite a few of those Germans killed by Canadians. Did you know there’s a street in Joliet Illinois called Vimy Ridge?

Nice Tom! Most likely every second hunter in Canada owns one except for me,lol.I would say more moose have met their demise at the hands of a .303 than any other rifle in Canada.In the 90,s I passed on buying a never issued 1943 .They were discovered in Ireland I believe.One of my big regrets.In the 1970,s to 1980 or so you could buy a .303 at western tire in town for 20 to 30 dollars.

If all heck broke out and society collapsed id trust in my p-17 Enfield and my weatherby pump.30-06 and 12g respectively.The p-17 is still deadly accurate and will reach out and touch some one at a distance.The weather is a stone dead reliable work horse.Though I have not done it in awhile I can reload 30-06,.303,375 h&h mag,.308,and 7.62x54R

If you want to get a true picture on the use of "assault weapons" & homicides, use the FBI's UCR (uniform crime reports). Homicides are chronicled by race, sex, and type of weapon used. Below is the data for 2011-2015. Rifles (including scary black ones) were under 300 except for 2011. Shotguns about the same. Keep in mind that rifles is all rifles, .22 plinkers up to dangerous game bolt guns. Ones identified as "assault weapons" are a fraction within the fraction. The facts are simple, they aren't used in the overwhelming majority of gun homicides by any stretch. That falls to handguns which are ~20X more likely to be used. Not how it is reported though, not even close -

A cynical person, such as myself, would suggest that the stats don’t matter, the end game is to ban them all. But it’s easier to go after the scariest ones first. Just like they tried with .44’s and “Saturday Night Specials”.
