A little OT: It's not about audio tape but it's still tape

Interesting article. I always thought tape was the superior backup medium. Less to go wrong. I remember when we got our Storagetek tape silos back in the late 90's. Saved a lot of manual tape loading and they were cool.
 
Very interesting. I remember open reel computer tapes (10.5") that could hold less than 4 megabytes. About 20 years later, cartridges a fraction of that size held over 2 gigabytes.. Now 30 years after that, there are cartridges with 15 terabytes. Of course half a century ago, we got by with 4 meg per tape because that is all the data we needed. Now we need 15 trillion bytes held in one hand? But there is an old saying in the computer game. Too much capacity is never enough. :)
