Akai GX-636 tape/source button problem

Hi all....I recently picked up an Akai GX-636 at an estate sale. It all works really good except the tape/source button doesn't work right. It works but it will not stay pushed in. If you push it in the source is heard...if you let it out the tape is heard. It just wont click in and stay there....Any ideas...I opened the machine up and it looks like a SMK brand switch...are they repairable or replaceable??? HELP Thanks in advance

As a rule, there are the grid defect from the switch. As is usually only a new switch buy.
Remove the switch and look at it exactly.

Sometimes the little spring latch mechanism in the switch gets gummed up and won’t engage. Try spraying a little contact cleaner into the mechanical part of the switch and working it, see if the latch starts catching. If it does follow up with one drop of fine oil in the latch mechanism. Had this same thing happen to the DBX switch on one of my TEAC X700R decks and I was able to coax it back to normal operation that way.
