Altec 708A tuner/ amp. Opinions requested.

I have the opportunity to pick up an Altec model 708A Astro tuner/amp. Don't know much about it, except that it cost a staggering $597.00 in 1963. It's rated at 55 watts output. I find it interesting that Altec referred to this unit as a tuner /amp. as opposed to the more common term receiver. Anyone know why? Any details you guys can add, would be a great help! Looking for any and all opinions, and comments on this unit. Thought it might be a good match for my Altec model 19 studio monitors.
