Amended list of 150+ wpc receivers!

Another fun thing to add if somebody were to make a table or spreadsheet of these would be weight.

Great idea, gearhead, but I only know the weights of the SX-1250/5590 and the Concept 16.5 (64 and 67 lbs respectively).

And what about the official +200 watt specs into 4 ohm ?
Both channels driven into 4ohm from 20hz to 20khz below the harmonic distortion specs.

Marantz 2600 = 2x400 watt (cooling fan) 60,3 lbs
Sansui G-33000 = 2x400 watt ??? (cooling fan) 100 lbs ?
Technics sa-1000 = 2x330 watt ??? 87 lbs
Marantz 2500 = 2x330 watt (cooling fan) 59,4 lbs
Sansui G-22000 = 2x300 watt (cooling fan) 88 lbs
Pioneer SX-1980 = 2x270 watt ??? 78 lbs
Concept 16.5 = 2x250 watt 67 lbs
Kenwood KR-9050 = 2x240 watt 52,9 lbs
Toshiba SA-7150 = 2x230 watt 60 lbs
Rotel RX-1603 = 2x220 watt 72,6 lbs
Hitachi SR-2004 = 2x200 watt 56,2 lbs
Pioneer SX-1250 = 2x200 watt 64 lbs

Hey, add the Kenwood KR-7070 to the big boys list! That was their TOTL in 1970, @ 160wpc. The one I have has a fried tuner motor, now removed, (yep, auto-tuning had a tiny motor turning the dial.) but the amp section is SWEET. :D  I'm re-capping it with all Nippon Chemi-Cons, with the 3 largest caps being the big green Scottish-made Dyna Long-Lifes, from a Dynaco amp. :smoke: I also have a minty KR-6340 from the mid-70's, with 2 seperate amp sections, for Quadrophonic sound, but I'm not sure how it was rated. :scratch2:

... love that NAD 300! Anyone ever hear one? Does it sound as good as it looks?

Sansui G-8700DB

Couldn't the G-8700DB be added to 150+ list
the G-9700db slightly smaller brother
listed at 160 w/pch
seems as though this model is almost forgoten
over over shadowed by the 9700

The G-8700 was an oversight, as it is not listed in the Orion Audio Blue Book.
I have listed it now. What were its dates and msrp?

Yeah, and my Orion is the 1997 edition.
approse, I will add that info, thanks. The G-8700 had to be a very fine receiver. I had a G-9700 that was an excellent receiver with an easy 200 wpc.

Sony STR-V7

EchoWars just did his thorough cleaning/setting/light-bulbs on an STR-V7 for me. He reports that it made 180wpc. Only mod was to add the by-pass caps on the big filter caps on the power supply filter caps. Here are a couple of nudies and a shot of the very clean front with that sexy green lighting.

Would this qualify for this list? Sears Audio by Fisher 2 ch. am/fm receiver Model # 143-92531600 300 wats max. Wood case with metal cover simulated wood grain. I know some people don't like Fisher, but this sounds great & a good deal w/ speakers for $7.00 at auction.

That is the max current draw from the electrical outlet, not the power output. That is probably around 30-60 wpc without knowing what model that is.

I remember most of the bigger Fisher's power draws, so this guy is probably about 50wpc, based on what an average power draw figure is in comparison to the receiver's actual output. Fisher RS-1058 which is rated at 90wpc has a power draw of 500 watts, the 1060 at 125wpc is 800 watts, and the 1080 at 170wpc is 1000 watts

Verrry, verrry purtie. Only mod was the bypass caps? Great! Did you use a tripod for your picture of the dial lights? It seems a little pixelated and blurry but still awesome. If you do shoot another picture of the dial lights please don't post it... it'll be too painful to look at

Should there be any additions to the list?

Yes, the Marantz TA-165, 165x2. It was the last POWERFUL Stereo Receiver Marantz made in 1987. It's almost 20 years old now so it should qualify as "vintage".

Stormseer - The 300W is the "power draw", not the "power output". I don't believe there is any possible way that a unit with a 300W power draw can produce 150 wpc. That would be 100% efficiency! Sorry, does not qualify.
