Ampex 800

Was given an Ampex 800 as part of a package with some speakers, which is what I was really seeking. The giver/seller said he thought the 800 needed belts but turned on. It does turn on and needs knobs but do not know about it needing belts. After looking through past threaks on this forum, it seems that changing the belts, if that is what is needed, is very difficult. First question: how does one check if the belts need to be replaced? Second, if they do, am I correct in assuming someone without any experience doing that (ME), should not attempt it? Third, any idea what it would cost for a tech person to do the belts and any other restoration--are we talking hundreds? Fourth, assuming the answers are "yes" to the two previous questions, is there anyone in Central Texas, SA, DFW, or Houston who would like to have this machine for parts/restore? Cannot ship it but would be glad to give it to someone at no cost.
