Analog to Digital Converter

Hello All,

Has anyone made their own analog to digital converter? Any instructions? Total shot in the dark, but I figure it's worth a try.

Otherwise I'll probably buy a ready made stand alone unit. Suggestions?

I don't know anything about a DIY DAC but I can tell you what I own.

Denon DA-500 - old school DAC, 20 bit, use it for my MP3 player since the DAC in the player inself is crap plus has 4 optical and 2 coaxial inputs

Cal Audio Sigma II - tube DAC, sounds good with older CD players and takes some of the harshness out. DACs in current players do a better job.

Assemblage DAC 2.6 - 24 bit, removed the HDCD chip and replaced it with the true 24 bit chip, replaced the op-amps with a more current model. Nice sounding unit in stock form or modded.

Assemblage was a off-shoot of Sonic Frontiers / Anthem but to my knowledge are not made anymore. I think their last DAC was the 3.0. If you want a tube DAC, check out Audio Notes' line-up.

Thanks...

geespot, sounds like you know your DAC's, unfortunately I need an ADC. Easy mix-up though.

Omer, could you tell me more about the ART DI/O ? Sounds expensive :)
