antenna???...

aloha state of mind
aloha---was wondering???:scratch2: what kind of indoor antenna to get/use for my sansui 8080???...mahalo :)

Besides plain ol' rabbit ears which are ugly as sin, I hear that BIC Beam Boxes are good, when you can get your hands on one on ePrey. It also depends on what the structure of your home is; aluminum siding is murder on signals, just as brick and such is, just as the height of your antenna is. The higher the floor, the better. Just be forewarned that indoor antennas are susceptible to RF given off by some other gear that might be sitting nearby, such as VCR's, or even the tuner itself, if it's got any digital circuitry in it!

I'm comming to the conclusion that any outdoor antenna will out-perform an indoor antenna. I'd bet a car's whip FM antenna, outside, would be better than the most elaborate indoor job... :scratch2:

I tried that once, just for laughs. It worked better than I'd expected! The 31" length is a quarter-wavelength for the center (98MHz) of the FM band. As long as it's up and outdoors, it beats anything indoors!

I've heard that view on outdoor antennas many times. If you are in not in a strong signal zone, then I think that an outdoor antenna is probably the best choice.

However, I've had excellent luck with the indoor BIC Beam Boxes myself. Multipath is a HUGE issue in the Seattle area, and being able to tune the direction of the antenna can really help with some stations. But I am in a strong signal zone, and I don't need any extra gain out of my antenna.

aloha---mahalo(thanks) for the responses...anyone heard of/know of/have a terk antenna???...mahope aku(later)...puluke

I have a Terk, but I don't know the model. It's a black plastic thing about a foot and a half tall with a gain control and an AC adapter to power it. It works pretty well. I also have a Beam Box FM-6 ($3.00 at a thrift). It also works well.

Try one of these:

or

http://www.ccrane.com/antennas/fm-antennas/fm-reflect-antenna.aspx

or if you want to get crazy:

from http://www.antennaperformance.com, here's a link to their indoor antenna for attic mounting: http://www.antennaperformance.com/products2.asp?ProductID=46&CategoryID=1

However, none of the indoor options will beat a good outdoor yagi. I use an APS-9 that's mounted in my garage and is fully rotatable. If you need good gain, but something compact, maybe the little Radio Shack 6-element FM antenna would work for you if you can mount it somewhere? It's fairly compact and is really pretty darn good for its cost and size. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?catalog_name=CTLG&product_id=15-2163

I still have an old Terk AM/FM amplified indoor antenna that is completely ineffective, so I personally cannot recommend one. YMMV, though. I've also tried a Radio Shack amplified model that Stereophile raved over some years ago, and it was a little better but still not "good." I've never tried a Beam Box, so I cannot comment.

I hope this helps!

No, I tried that and my audioprism was still better inside.
