I got these along with a large lot of equipment & parts I bought some time ago. Just came across them while clearing shelves. They are quite heavy and sound pretty good for not being in any enclosure. Just wondering if any speaker specialists might know what they are.

Yes, Utah.

I think that's an uncommon size.

They made both cast and stamped steel versions in 8 inch, and marketed under several brand names.

Well thank you both. That's 2 steps closer to knowing anything about these than I was to start.

You thinking of using them in a project? Probably want to get driver parameters, which won't be out there (unless lightning strikes the Internet), so you'd probably have to get them tested. they look kinda cool. Built like a tank.

If there's no cap visible it might be hidden inside the bell, behind that name plate. Sometimes you can get the glue to soften with a hair dryer and peel them off without damaging them.

Unfortunately I have no ability to build a project speaker. Just one of those deals where you get a box full of stuff
and some of it you know nothing about. I was most excited that they came from Lincolnwood, IL.

Utah was from Indiana (!) not Lincolnwood, Ill. I seem to remember the Herald name associated with Olsen Radio years ago. I think Olson marketed surplus parts and may have put their name on OEM gear. Sorry, not much help.

Herald Electronics was a retailer of woofers mids ,tweeters , crossovers and other electronic parts.
They got their goods from manufacturers in the USA and Asia. The owner introduced me to people
in the speaker business and that was how I got my start building loudspeakers.
