Anybody else have/had a CM Laboratories Amp?

CM 912 a

I do'nt know CM labs was made for LWE speaker, some kind of deception
for me...

I buy it base on the 914 review and to drive AR 3 4 ohm speaker.

Now, i wonder if it worth rebuilt them? Still not a lot of info about
the 912a...

Thank for the info yahoo group.

Recently, a completely rebuilt CM Labs 911 sold for $600. And a good working CM 300 listed for $225 with no sells.

You should be able to figure out the worth based on these info. I see you paid $300 for it. I think spending another $300 for rebuilding it probably ok but not more than that.

I had a CM920 which is the most powerful CM labs amp (250wpc). It sounds good but not match my Adcom 555 imo. It also getting very hot very fast. And I am sending it to a tech for checking it.

There amp will work with regular speakers as any amp sill but has the advantage of not needing the mod required if the owner is using the LWE speakers. So, you are still good to go.

Rebuild CM Labs 912a

Tomorrow i will get my 912a back from the tech
shop. I'm very happy but do'nt know what to expect
cause i never ear a CM Labs power amp. He just
quit the seller place to the tech as the unit was
far from where i live.

Someone could told me how long it take to burn in
a total rebuild power amp???? In term of hour
before he start to play is optimal performance ???

I will share my experience later....

Rebuild CM LABS 912

I receive the rebuild CM 912 and was no very happy
with the sound. Anemic on the bass region but very
smooth agreable to ear. So i will let the power amp
burn in couples of week after i will decide what i
will do. But from now it a kind of deception....

By the ways i found in a thrift store a Digidesign 1622
DAC for studio in Protool application. I try it today and
was very surprise of the audio quality of this DAC.

Great found. I will return to wrote after better running
time of this power amp.

Time will told me...

rebuild CM LABS 912

Just want to updated my last comment. After a 350h of burn in
the power amp start to became really good. I can't say more
cause a hum problem in the right side of the amp who has to
return at the tech shop. So after that it will be more easy for
me to made a better idea of the sound quality.

It really true that a rebuild unit will need time before they sound
at best...But it an unique opportunity to ear the evolution of the
sound during burn in process.

CM914 running LWE I's with LaScalas

I have 4 pairs of LWE speakers, (II's, 2x III's, and early I's with the cubby on the back ..Louis Erath lived nearby). When the motional feedback system is engaged through LWE I's via the CJ connector on this CM914, the regular speaker outputs sound wonderful through a pair of Klipsch Lascalas. It may be that the 15" woofers being similar in both speaker sets results in a "harmonic convergence" .... not to mention window rattling bass. Have not been past 12:00 on the volume knob as the amp only sees 3 Ohms with these speakers in parallel.

Glad this thread has been resurrected!

I have 2 CM-912P amplifiers. Apparently the same as the 912A, but built without the wood or the meters. One is completely original, the other had been ''repaired'',with some very questionable semiconductor choices.

I ran the good one for some time (no interest in solid state,I'm a tube guy) just to see what it sounded like. I remember it being very smooth, pleasant and quite powerful and dynamic. At the time I was using Telefunken TLX-3 speakers which were not known for efficiency (84db?).

Been looking for information on these for years, but still haven't found anything.

Why back in this thread someone mentioned a CM915, but I haven't found any other mention of it anywhere.

Just found one local this week, wondering if anyone has any info on this puppy?

Model on front is CM LABS, CM915.
On back it's CM LABS 8000 Madison Pike, Madison, AL 35758

Basics are it's a two channel pro amp, 1/4" inputs, five way binding posts, stereo/mono capable all on back.
On front its got two level knobs, one for channel A and one for B, power switch, five segment LED metering, and either had two front panel fuses or circuit breakers.
-ones gone (bypassed) other's broke.

Looking for specs, service manual or just any info on this thing.
