I know nothing about them but they are cool and that graph if at all accurate looks very good.

Bolly, you were supposed to read and highlight the interesting parts...

first link says forbidden...were you looking at japanese porn again?

Knowing Jack, he's never heard them and they're located in Antarctica.

Diatone's are probably my favorite full range drivers. Much better than the bose of full-range, Lowther, IMO. But then again, what isn't? :scratch2:

THey are very good sounding. I've only heard the 610's in the "Crowley" ported enclosures, which I think are based on the Diatone design.

Unfortunately the 610's are out of production, and are pretty expensive on the "NOS" market.

Gary Kaufman is the current owner of the "Crowley" Diatones (last I knew).

EDIT: It would be really interesting to hear a pair of the AlNiCo Diatone P-610's against the lowly twincone Radio Shack 40-1354's (approximately the same size as the Diatone FR's). I suspect that the $14.99 (MSRP when they were still in production) 40-1354 would give the P-610 a run for its money (so to speak). My 40-1354's continue to beguile me, and I am not easily beguiled by speakers.

I emailed this place in japan, as they had the drivers by themselves as not available but the complete speaker system didnt say so...if they are, I am getting them...for my cello, guitar small chamber ensemble music...

Lowther: the Bose of full range? OUCH! Seems a bit unfair -- whether you like the way Lowthers sound, they come closer to justifying their price than Bose do -- silver wire wound on both sides of the voice coil, some with alnico magnets, and a lot of hand work in production. Of course since there are so few of them made, the costs can't be amortised, so they are expensive. But they do enough of the things that speakers are supposed to do, and so well, that for some people its worth it.
Bose geets market share by advertising and by interior decorator type design, and only incidentally because of how they sound. I don't think anyone has ever accused Lowther of having marketing smarts or glamo looks.

Nat, you are right, my contempt for lowther is mainly directed at the lowther zealots who seem to blanketly follow the lowther "way". That is where the Bose comparison stems from. I have yet to hear a set of Lowthers that I found to be any better than a slightly above average wide range driver. Build quality and materials are quite good, but to me, it hasn't translated into what I would consider high fidelity. No highs, no lows, gotta be....lowthers? ;)

Again, probably a little harsh, but color me quite unimpressed by their real world abilities.
