Anyone tried SET Kt88 or Push Pull EL84 on their L112 ?

The L112 is about 89dB/1w/1m- it will take around 15 watts to achieve 100dB (a good peak level for transients- that would equate to about an 80dB average level, given 20dB average peak/crest factor for music).

Given that, the PP EL84 (in pentode mode, that can easily make 15 watts) probably has a better chance of producing good enough dynamics, compared to the KT88 in SE triode mode (which will make more like 10 watts). That's about 1.8dB louder for the EL84PP, compared to the SEST KT88.

I can say- I used to use a PP EL84 amp (Stromberg ASR-333) on my old JBL L77s- which are about 1.5dB less efficient than the L112s. That combination sounded quite good. Not "concert level" sound pressure levels- but enough for satisfying everyday listening, IMHO. That same power should do even better on the L112.

Gordon.
