Are these a good investment?

I LOVE my RSIIIbs and have a chance to pick up a pair of Kappa 7s in, let's say, fair to poor, condition. The mids are gone, the tweets and woofers look ok. The grilles are missing. I can get them for $45 the pair.

Even if only one tweeter is working, it's worth the price of admission. Pull the trigger on those.

    Also...purple foam....wild.

Those woofers aren't original, I'll bet.

If the woofers are made of poly, I'll take a chance and. bring them home

The woofers look original but someone refoamed them in purple.

Got the Kappa 7s. They are really rough. The cabinets are pretty trashed. So far, both woofers and one tweeter is working.

What to do? They ARE going to stay in my room, so I could live with the looks. If I could just repair these cheaply enough they might be worth keeping?

With 3 of 6 drivers working they already sound like they'll run circles around my TF 600s that I'm using now.

    Need advice and opinions.

A replacement tweeter can be found on eBay for $60 or so. Midrange drivers are more difficult, but if you don’t care about keeping them original, you could probably find something that would work at Parts Express.

Ok, the tweeter tests good with a VOM. I'll have to see if I can see anything on the crossover board.

Right, so...it's not so easy to get those crossovers out is it? The mids are wired right through the side of their cardboard tubes and I'm not sure how to go about getting some slack in the wires.

    Who has done this before?

Get them fixed! Spend a little $$$ and you won't be disappointed. I just finished mine today and am testing them out against my CS-3008 set and they are really close.

Just an fyi... I saved my pushed in center caps using a small shop vac. Just be very gentle. No quick pulls and have your hand on the off switch.
