Hi guys,

Does anyone have any information on the B-1 power amp and the matching E-1 preamp??

Dates of manufacture?
Was this a Japanese domestic model only?
Specifications sheet?
etc.

I can't seem to find anything out about these 2 pieces of gear. Any information is most appreciated.

As always...thanks!! :thmbsp:

Does anyone know anything about these?

This book is freak'in me out.

'Freak out': oh, that was Frank Zappa.

(I made it with a B chick who made it with Frank Zappa, Chicago)

:)

(it was good :) I'll never forget that one, next day we went to the beach and hung out)

(found four nice photos and a little Japanese writeup on an APS-1400M yesterday on Biglobe)

SemiPro, thanks Stene.

I've been digging for a long time and never have found anything out about this amp/preamp combo.

Bet it sounds nice.

The Sansui Professional Products

The parametric equalizer P-1,
the phono equalizer E-1 and
the basic amplifier B-1.

Here ist an ad (Billboard March 03, 1979):

The B-1 ...

On Ebay I've bought a datasheet of the P-1:

I had seen an E-1 years ago on Ebay, but now I find only one picture on the net:

I really like the B-1 (one fine amp with super cool VU meters), E-1 (very useful), & the P-1 (just ' parametric ' WoW!!).

I'd love to have all three restored in a TT rack.

Since 2006... I've seen for sale (used): 3 each B-1 in Japan and 2 each E-1 on the bay (one was really beat up, used in a studio - forgot which one & the other had parts missing). I've never seen a P-1 for sale, ever. I've always wanted a P-1.

Thanks Hifi 1991. :)

Lousy, miserable - I can not find suitable words that express my disapproval of this packaging:
:(

HANDKERCHIEFS?!

Well, yes, sanitary pads - at least in the same direction ...

Immediately after opening: no padding, first damage reports arrive:

-> caseback pressed by the foot

-> bent corner

-> even more by the foot impressed caseback

-> another bent corner

-> sheared housing screw - or was it missing before?

> still missing housing screw - probably both were missing before!

Nevertheless, the first impression - is ok!

Truly a rare animal!

... in the classic profile ...

International model, production line number 22, the tenth unit which was made in December 1979!

Above: XLR and jack (just a studio device), down some to me completely unknown short circuit (?) oktal plugs ...?!

Now we are almost completely around ...

A few more confused and completely unmotivated detail shots: The high and low bands are optionally switchable as a band or pass filter.

The bandwidths are individually (!) adjustable, the parametric operating frequencies very generously overlapping.

Two steep-edged filters plus a parametric notch filter per channel complete the features.

... to be continued!

Nice score there. This is the first confirmed existence of a P-1 I've ever seen. A damn shame it got bunged up with such poor packaging. As it seems to be functionally undamaged, hopefully you can get most of the bends and dents out so it is reasonably decent looking when finished.

This isn't a model that I've had a great desire for, but gotta admit I'd like to own one just for its exceptional rarity. The P-1 is harder to find than an MA-7 monitor consolette, or a CD-10 crossover as I've never seen one for sale in the 22 years I've been collecting.

Never really thought about the Professional aspect of Sansui but with the MA/AX-7 I have it seemed logical. HiFi 1991 has opened that up, fantastic post and serious equipment detailed.
Commiserations with the crap shipping protection on that P-1, had some similar disappointments. I’ve never seen any of these for sale but maybe not looking in the right places for professional gear although occasionally see Yamaha, SAE, Bose and Mitsubishi products listed.
Always learning from AK members, brilliant Forums.....thank you one and all.
