Been Thinking of Ditching Cable - Favorite Streaming Options for TV?

If you are able to download a build yourself the easiest one is http://fusion.tvaddons.ag/. I am using a different build myself but it's on my phone and my wife just went to town with my phone.
If you will send me your email I'll send it to to you tomorrow afternoon.

If you primarily just want to watch football and you don't care about the quality of picture (once in a while streams will be in HD though), check out stream2watch.co. Im a huge boxing fan and I had to cancel HBO & Showtime due to loss of job and this site never let me down for sports. Just make sure you have good protection. I use Firefox with AD Block Pro, Malwarebytes, Spybot SD & Norton.

got a Fios 3 for package (100 bucks a month plus a 400.00 gift card, for new customers, but will probably triple when it ends)

I remember those days in our area about 10 years back. When FIOS finally made it to our street we had Roadrunner. FIOS was offering a new flatscreen TV if you flipped. We didn't do it right away but some of our neighbors did. They ended up with a decent TV out of the deal. The deal ran for a couple months and we ultimately changed. FIOS had no more sets so we ended up with a VISA gift card for $500.

First thing to get after cutting cord is an OTA antenna and a TIVO. I did this 5+ years ago and don't miss hundreds of channels of crap. Now I have 20+ channels of crap:)

I find I can watch most games OTA I want to watch, which means Packers, here in metro Detroit. They are on enough that I can get most, and when they aren't I can go to a local Packers bar and watch.

Ironically, the bar on my corner is Steelers bar, as I went inbto see if the Pack was on and was overwhelmed by a sea of black and gold, which is fine as I lived in Pittsburgh for a year.
But other sports certainly aren't as well represented OTA and seem to have vanishef ftom loccal airwaves.

any suggestions ronscat?[/QUOTE]

Ok, just watched this build of Kodi on Youtube with over 300 repositories available:
.
I am positive there is something on there for anyone that takes the
time to install kodi on your os and then just follow directions on this link.

Playstation Vue. Cheaper than cable. They even have a free preview, which is 30 days I believe. You need a playstation 3 or 4. You can also subscribe to a number of other streaming services through the ps3 or 4.

I use the Chromecast Video unit. Download whatever streaming apps you want, find the show you want to watch on your smartphone, then using the Chromecast Video unit, cast whatever's on your phone to your TV and voila.... But I spend most of my time listening to the music through the Chromecast Audio unit.

I could live w/out cable or satellite TV ... not so for my wife & elderly mother who lives w/ us. They like specific programs.

In recent years I switch between promo packages for cable & satellite TV ... when the promo runs out ... usually I can negotiate another good deal (talk to a customer retention specialist) ... if they play hardball I just jump ship & repeat. It's always a PITA though ... takes these clowns (I'm referring to cable & sat) several months to get their billing right ... you have to watch them ... or your bill as it were.

Seen this YouTube video which looks to be an interesting alternative to Cable or Satellite TV ... comes over the net.

Sling TV is another option.

I tried SlingTV and I thought that it sucked. A lot of the time, the picture looked like the old "NFL Films."

I viewed the youtube vid and then went to the nuclius website. For $30 it looks like I can get the channels I want.

Thanks for posting this.

SlingTV blows compared to the same HBO GO and Watch ESPN feeds.

One other thing, if you buy a Roku with comes access to a lot of free content. It's actually rather mind-boggling how much is on it for movies, TV shows, etc. The only downside is that most cannot be viewed without watching periodic commercials. However, video quality is HD on much of it and the commercials spaced out.

I picked up a roku stick 2016 version and it works well. I use t-mobile binge on (dvd quality only) and stream on $30/5 gig plan. Data is unlimited with binge on quality. HBO-GO and ESPN on lower quality is good, sling-tv is bad. That and OTA + TIVO is fine for me and $120 less expensive. Free mlb.tv with t-mobile offer also with binge on but my team, Rays, suck so I rarely watch that. Elderly parents are down the street if I have to watch something on cable. They pay $150+ for internet + cable + dvr...

I checked for some reviews of the "Nuclius" set up and I think it may be a scam.

Agree. I smell fish. Been hawking the device/service since 2010. Are they even shipping units? Do they pay interest on your $441.36 initial fee they hold for years?

Yes... I think it definitely smells bad.

I've been waiting for some enlightened company to offer a "cafeteria plan" in which I can choose 10 or 15 channels and then stream them. I'd gladly pay $50 a month for such a service. These "500 channels" subscriptions are crazy... my neighbors each have satellite and they watch about 10 channels is all... yet they pay for (and therefore subsidize the other 490 crap channels.

Is there any service out there like this yet?

Wow ... Sling TV sucks & Nuclius TV maybe a scam ... looks like I'll be sticking w/ the Cable or Satellite TV companies ... no cord cutting for me ... until or if a viable alternative comes along.

I'll have to have the same programming options as Cable or Satellite (at a discount) for me to switch.

These cord cutting options give you numerous choices on things to watch ... just not what you want to watch ... like Netflix .. you had more movie choices with their DVD mail order.

According to Consumer Reports << click link... most people are using streaming as a supplement vice as a replacement for cable or sat.

Late last year Comcast (XFINITY) put their heretofore smarmy toe in the water by test marketing a stream plan for their "internet" customers in select markets. I'm not a Comcast customer but based soley on their pitch page, there's no mention of it requiring a cable sub.

$15 a month gets you live TV (Limited Basic + HBO and more. lol). So while it's not true à la carte...it's a relative step in the right direction. So for OTA "antenna crippled" folks it's a "new horizon" option. One surprising bonus is that it does not munch on your data cap. Maybe some Xfinity folks will weigh in here with the real world dope on this caper.

Thanks for posting this... at least someone is thinking about this.

I know this is an old thread, but I was hoping someone might be able to help me. I bought a streaming tv device last year from streamsmart.tv. The device has failed so I attempted to get some support. But that site redirects now to streamstation.se, and the site is down. I did see a similar site https://streamstation.co in the search results and was wondering if anyone knows if this is the same company? Thank you in advance!
