I am in the process of finishing the restoration of my Dynaco ST-70 and am considering bi-amping it with my SX-1980 using the Dynaco for the mid & highs and the Pioneer for the bass.
A few years back I built a homebrew vacuum tube pre-amp (plans from Glass Audio) and wired it into my SX-1980 such that I kept the Pioneers exiting pre-amp switches. The sound was more tube-like and overall I prefer the sound over the stock pre-amp.
I didn't have any problems with the stock pre-amp, I just prefer the sound of vacuum tubes over solid state. The only problem I am having with my Pioneer is the FM tuner, it keeps drifting out.
Has anyone bi-amped an SX-1980?
