Blue Shadow .. Making Our World A Better Place ..

Sharpstik

Stuck in the 70's
And sounding better .

An unsung member here , whom I am placing , at least for one thread , on center stage .

Some of you may already know of the Marantz 2240 I recently found in my daughter’s farmhouse . Old man , being 81 , moved away and left it . Beat up, it found its way to Keith here who offered to tackle it . He doesn’t perform just a “tolerable “ job, but a unit that you can anticipate looking forward to and performing its best . The data sheet hasn’t shown up yet but it will soon .

In addition , to the 2240 , he has re capped my Optimus 5’ s from Radio Shack. My KLH 6’a . My Pioneer cs 50 a’s from around 1970 . Spiffed up the free Sansui 7070 I found and made my Pioneer SA 9500ll tuner and integrated appear new . Gave me a pair of Maranrz 7 Imperial speakers which I still use . And some other stuff ( important at the time but I will leave out here )
He is also a sounding board for help . And my third ear . And accepts the fact that I like compression when listening lol.

This was originally meant to be a thread tribute expounding on a member’s talent . Not to show off gear . But he’s been there whenever I asked .

@Blue Shadow I have known him for a long time, and he cares about good sound and doing things to the best of his ability. He is also a fountain of Vintage knowledge, always willing to help when appreciated.
Regards,
Jim

It is not my job to tell anyone how their music is supposed to sound. It is my job to allow them to make their music sound it best to them. I don't care how people use the gear as long as it is generally used as it should be. If someone wants compression, fine, they make compressors just for that reason.

Why should anyone tell someone else that they are listening to music wrong? That is like not accepting their taste in music genre and we don't really do that here on AK but if it is using tone controls or a compressor or an EQ, Katy bar the door there can be a flood of negativism. Just odd, I think.

I really liked Dave mentioning that I don't just do a tolerable job. This comes from that Marantz 2240 which had a nice cabinet on it. Looked good. Dave probably cleaned it with pledge or something and now he had a 40 year old nice Marantz cabinet that was Tolerable (his term). When I had his unit the cabinet got a nice Acetone wipe to remove all the dirt, dust and oils from its years of life. Then a quick sand with some 220-400 grit whatever I had, depending on how rough it was. It was nice, didn't need much. Then after a wipe clean it got a good healthy drink of Howard's Feed and Wax because the wood was thirsty. Made the cabinet look great...a few steps past tolerable. More work but isn't making these units like new better sorta what we do here?

Thanks for the comments, guys.
