Can Alcohol damage our hearing?

I wonder what's so different about the auditory cortex that, of all parts of the brain, it's more susceptible to alcohol damage than the rest of the brain.

Drinking alcohol can affect your hearing badly.

I used to see a lot of bar bands. The players were already drunk and had their amps cranked up to 20. I guess you would call that second hand hearing loss. A bunch of drunk geetar players blow out my eardrums.
