I often get up with the sun. But since I'm on the wrong side of Haleakalā, sunrises aren't as spectacular. The light and shadow it casts on the other side of the valley is pretty cool. For good sunrises, I'd have to go to the other side of the island or to the top. For sunsets, all I have to do is look out the back.My wife and I have been going to a place on the east side of Kauai north of Lihue for the past several years and it is just the opposite for us. We set the alarm for 6am and when the coffee is done go sit on a log on the beach. Never seen a sunset in HI, but many, many sun rises!
Sunrise at 10,000+ feet, above the clouds.
