Analogue "AAA" vinyl.
How much different are they? Which model is best for running 2 pairs of speakers? Thanks in advance, THE FISHER adepts.
Both 7591 based, Sam is right that the C has bigger output transformers. Pick the one that looks better in your eyes, you're likely to love either one. If it is critical that the unit be capable of running two sets of speakers (which I wouldn't recommend), be aware that the 800B has only one set of speaker terminals. The C has two sets of terminals and the speaker selector switch allows you to run both.
Why is that?
The C series receivers have slightly larger OPTs and power transformers. An 800C will have a slightly larger power transformer than a 500C, to accommodate the additional AM section. But the supply filtering capacitance is virtually identical between the two series. And at the end of the day, you are still dealing with a single 7591A PP pair, which is the key limiting factor to the design. The C will have slightly more dynamic headroom on transients. Otherwise, consider them both as 30-32 wpc receivers.
You can run four speakers off of a C. But they had better be extremely efficient drivers, with no meaningful impedance dips. Otherwise, your supply sections had better be completely up to par, or you can count on problems. Yes, the 1+2 switch is there. But these are two speaker instruments at their core.
Folks ~ I have been mulling over the possibility of building the headphone out section of the 800C circuit onto a modular board , grafting same into an 800B and adapting the centre channel out as the headphone jack out !
Would this be feasible or do I need to up the Meds again :scratch2:
