CR-2020, not sure I'd call it a score per se..

That is absolutely beautiful. I really like the furniture in your pics too, very cool and modern!

Beautiful... well cared-for. The seller said he had it serviced, so what was serviced? I only ask because it is about 30 years old, so it may need to be recapped. OTOH, my brother has a 30-year-old CR-620 and it sounds great. :dunno:

Really lovely. Very nice find. Rare to see receivers priced anything less than ridiculously in that kind of condition...wow.

Your pictures are very close to being "vintage receiver porn." Very beautiful, indeed. Congratulations.

Wow, thanks everyone! Hooked it up in my office last night after work to my computer through a Grant DAC-09. Got it powering my Celestion5 bookshelves, with my Klipsch KSW-150 sub running off the preouts.

How's it sound? Fan-feaking-tastic! I had no idea how much punch and clarity I was missing. Previously I was using an early 90s Yamaha RX-550 and the 2020 sounds miles better in every regard. With the 550, when you got the volume up to 'fun' levels, the mids got real muddy and I just chalked it up to room acoustics. Much clearer now, even though the room is still not ideal.

It seems like he said it sat for a long time, and when he went to use it a couple years ago, one of the channels was cutting out intermittantly. He gave me a couple mosfets he think came from it. They say D234 on them. It was serviced by a shop over in Norcross, GA, but he couldn't remember the name. Looks like they did good work, there's not even any screwdriver marks on the screws.

If anyone's curious on the price, let's say it was three and a half Benjamins.

Quick question: how warm should these things run? Had it running about an hour currently, playing at lowish volume. If you put your hand on the top grille just to the front of the main transformer, it's probably 105F or so. Is that normal?

My boss is a big fan of mid-century modern, Frank Lloyd Wright and Alden B. Dow. The office is an interesting mix of current office furniture like Aeron chairs and mid-century pieces. I hadn't previously thought much of the stuff, but really admire it now that I've been exposed to a lot of it through him.

These do run warm, 105F IMHO isn't warm for these at all. Give it plenty of ventilation but then I doubt you'll be stacking anything on top of this one.
Like others, I've got one too but not like that!

Sounds like the shop did the service bulletin mods as the 2SD234s were the original voltage regulators and Yamaha recommended replacing them with 2SD525s. The warmth you feel there is from the two 2SD525s they could actually do with bigger heatsinks, but they will run all day at that temperature. I did put bigger heatsinks on mine but if you do be sure to use the insulators just in case the sinks should touch because without the insulators the sinks will be at opposit polarities - poof.

Thanks for the info! It looks like the mosfets in it are D313s. Is that a compatible piece, or should they be D525s as you say?

Definitely could use larger heat sinks, but there's not a whole lot of room in there. Wouldn't be too hard to custom fab something that'd fit pefect, but I guess I'd rather leave it as original as possible at this point.
