CS-3007

Hey All,

I recently got a pair of Infinity Crescendo CS-3007 at a garage sale for $50, heck yeah! (see Flickr link below) They need a refoam and I'm having a bear of a time getting the plastic ring off of the outside of the speaker. Any tips or tricks. I need to do it as quickly as I can because my wife is not happy about me doing it on the dining room table. Also, I bought the foam off of eBay from these guys.

Was that a mistake? Finally, if only one of the foams is damaged, should I replace them all anyway?

Thanks
Matt

50 bucks for the pair was a steal !

I used some really fine straight bladed screwdrivers and an Esse Izula, it just takes time to break that glue under the ring. I also pinch the foams, if it breaks or cracks on the others I'd do them all.

I can't speak on the foams you bought but they look ok to me.

Congrats on a nice find and welcome to AK.

Like has been said, thin screw driver blades work. I think when I did my 3008's I actually pushed a chisel style x-acto blade under the rings from the cone side, in, out, in, out all the way around, then used what I call the starfish method on it. That is where you apply steady, constant pressure, in this case prying up, on the ring being gentle but firm so as not to crack the ring. By doing this the glue eventually 'gives' and you can get the ring off.
That kit looks good to me, and the price is competitive with what I paid for my kit.
Good luck and post some pics when you get them all done. Your cab's look pretty nice, what we can see of them.

use a hair dryer, get them good and hot, they'll come right off once the glue softens up.

my 2 cents Stu

I've done probably 20 IMG woofers now. They're easy once you get the hang of them.

The trick is to cut all the way around the back edge with an exacto knife. Then slip the blade in under the front just enough to get a small flat bladed screwdriver in. Then turn the screwdriver back and forth in little prying motions all the way around. It will pop off. See pics.

Oh, and I would buy the kit from Simply Speakers instead. They supply you with a type of glue that works much better on the graphite woofers. The regular white craft glue is too slippery. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Infinity-CS...102829?hash=item2102ee756d:g:H6sAAOSw37tWAw~P
