DAC or Buffer?

caddisgeek

sorry.......what?
I'm looking to upgrade my digital source (NAD 502) with either an external DAC or a Yaqin tube buffer. I'm also considering upgrading the opamps in the CDP.

I'm looking for advice (and stupid comments if they're funny) on the pro's and con's of each from people with experience with either method (and not comments from those who haven't used them)

Ok guys, keep it nice :D

Cheers
Steve

Look nice, but I also should have stated I'm dipping my toe in the water so to speak, ans $1000 is a fair bit more than I want to spend

Might want to consider Music Hall DAC 25.2 with a 6922 output

with postage 700USD will convert to about 1000 pacific pesos (aussie dollars)

IMO, a better DAC will make the buffer irrelevant. If you shop used, there are many good choices out there.

Personally, I think it's a waste to mess with the op amps...only because you're headed to an external DAC anyway, and with that the op amps become a moot point.
