DAT recorder playback

On the old Panasonic SV 3700 DAT recorders...... the only output on the back is a digital IEC type 2 coax,
one is in and other is out.
If you want to just playback some DAT tape music thru a receiver or amp do you use these 2 coax plugs???
do they go to the left and right input on an amp??? does it matter which is which??

Those are digital coax jacks. If your amp/processor has a DAC in it and a coax digital input, you can connect the SV3700 digital output to it with a single coax cable. Both L and R channels are carried over the single connection.

To use an analog input on an preamp/amp/receiver, you'll need to use the XLR output jacks on the Panasonic. Probably you'll want adapters or cables that convert XLR to RCA. In this case you hook up both L and R channels as normal.

i have an Oppo 980H player. It has the orange digital output also. But its an output not an input. Can I run coax from the SV 3700 out
to the Oppo digital out and have it DAC thru the Oppo and play...??

Nope. That coax output on the Oppo is strictly an output, not an input.

Two of these would let you use the XLR analog outputs on the Panasonic and plug it into any line-level L and R inputs (Aux, Tape, etc.) on a receiver or amp: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=4784

And to make recordings, for sending an analog signal into the DAT machine (from a Tape output on the amp), you need two of these: https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=4777
