Would you be willing to post the link to the 2220b service manual?

What is the minimum of components that gets replaced to update a working 2220b?

Go to hifiengine.com and join (free). Once logged in, go to Library--->Marantz--->Stereo Receivers--->2220. You will find a link to the 2220B service manual.

Done! Just need some Dow 340 for the output transistors and some capacitor clamps for the mundorf cans I got. Glad I got some time today to do this !

Minimum is to replace all the caps in the phono, power supply, tone board, and power amplifier. But if it's working you can do one board at a time and continue to use it.
