'Dead' format lives again - Sony Mavica FD88 :-)

Quartz locked n ready to rock
I found a Mavica FD88 recently in a thrift for $2 and it even had a 1.44 Mb floppy still in it. I had to acquire a battery and charger ($10) before I could try it out and I'm glad to say - it works !!!

I've never used one of these cameras before so I'm excited to get it out and about and see what it can do. Its got an 8x optical zoom lens with a constant F/2.8, a 'quick access' 4x floppy disk drive and a 1.3 Mp CCD sensor (wow !!) which is enough to produce 1280 x 960 images. It's basically the worlds' biggest webcam. Oh, the power !

It seems very IR sensitive, as most early Sonys' were, so I'll be trying it with the 720 filter soon.

Samples to follow soon .......

Real decent cameras. Been using one of their mini disk cameras (MVC CD350) for years now and it just keeps on ticking ... most recent click resized for da innernet ...

I've also got an MVC CD500 with Zeiss optics. Higher resolution and many more "professional" options.
