8mm should be sufficient; depending what type of shaft coupler you get, they either have one screw on both ends or two; might have to do some trial and error to get it just right.

Last question. I’m trying to find a snug fit bolt to fit through the LP hole all of the ones I have found are too loose. It says the holes are 0.286. Any ideas?

I don't think you need to worry about it fitting perfectly if you're going to have some sort of record clamp holding everything in place.
