Dropping resistor for 8v to 6.5v dial pointer light conversion

Hi folks. I have to replace an SX-636 dial pointer light, which is an 8v 50ma bulb. I have none of those here, but I have some 6.5v 70mA bulbs. Can I just stick a 20-ohm or so dropping resistor in-line and use one? I swapped the dial lights to LEDs so the extra current draw shouldn't be an issue. I have a ton of the 6.5v bulbs and have the 636 open now, so I'd prefer not to wait a week to get an 8v bulb.

...Or rig in a 100Ω 2W pot and dial up the correct resistance until you achieve close to 6.0V on the installed lamp. Match that measured resistance with metal film or carbons and you'll be good to go.
