Dual Turntable Hum

I just bought a Dual 601 turntable at a yard sale.

The TT seems to work just that there is a hum when the arm reaches the record and while it is playing. While the arm is moving towards the record there is no hum.

Anyone what the problem might be?

Let me guess. It has Grado cartridge on it.

Grumpy

I am not sure what cartridge it has.

All I know is that hte brand of the cartridge is Shure.

Is the table grounded ?

I do not think the turntable is grounded.

There is no ground wire ont he turntable.

Is there some way to add a ground wire?

Grumpy has set you onto the right track, if there is no ground wire, that's probably the problem.

I believe Grumpy is right... The only time I've experienced "Hum" on any turntable is because of it's ground wire...

I think there is a thread on how to wire a ground here somewhere... I don't know which models of Dual's though..

I would have to dig up a 601 manual around here to find out.

Its pretty decent turntable and probably worth replacing the ground if that what the problem is.

Do you see a single strand of wire coming out from the back of the table where the power plug is ? If so that is the ground.

Even if the ground wire is broken off externally, more than likely lifting the chassis out of the box will reveal where it went. I bet its simply screwed to the chassis base somewhere near the motor.
