DVD audio, not DVD-A question

Is it possible to record the soundtrack off a DVD? Is the soundtrack protected or what?
If not, how does one go about doing so?
thanks!

Hi MD,

Short answer is yes.

You can do a full rip using your computer which should allow you to copy all manner of DVD audio.

Or you can use the analog outputs from your dvd player, which limits you to copying the stereo soundtracks (either PCM like a CD or downmixed DD, DTS is off limits).

AFAIK digital straight out of the player to a recording device is verboten.

cheers

Thanks Michael,
my friend was trying to rip or at least copy the unplugged version of Neil Young's "Greendale."
My puter don't have a DVD drive, so maybe I can check out his laptop and figure out what's wrong.
Stay tuned!
